What is Botox and Fillers?

BOTOX® is medically used to treat specific muscular conditions, and cosmetically used to remove wrinkles by temporarily paralyzing muscles. It is made from a neurotoxin called botulinum toxin that is produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. This neurotoxin can be used to treat excessive sweating, migraines, muscular disorders, and some bladder and bowel disorders.

Dermal fillers are smooth injectable gels made from naturally occurring hyaluronic acid. They add volume to weakened facial features and can stimulate collagen growth. Each dermal filler is unique in its own way but similar in two. First, they plump skin and gently lift it to restore collagen loss due to the normal aging process. Secondly, dermal fillers motivate the body to create its own natural collagen and restore your face to a more natural, youthful appearance. The brand product that our office will be using is Juvederm fillers.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  1. How does the BOTOX® Cosmetics work?

BOTOX targets one of the underlying causes of frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead lines, which are the repeated muscle contractions from frowning, squinting, smiling and raising eyebrows over the years. Your specialist can inject BOTOX into these muscles to temporarily reduce muscle activity. You will then notice a visible smoothing of the frown lines between your brows, your crow’s feet lines and your forehead lines.

  1. How long are filler and botox treatments?

Dermal filler treatments typically take 20-40 minutes and the amount of dermal filler needed will depend on volume loss and the areas you would like to restore to its natural beauty. Botox procedures usually take at least 10 minutes.

  1. When will I see results from Botox and Fillers?

With fillers, you will be able to see results immediately. Botox results takes around 24-48 hours, and should last for at least 4 months for moderate to severe frown lines.

  1. Does the treatment for both hurt? What can I expect?

Some patients report that being injected with BOTOX® and fillers feels like a pinch. Your specialist may use ice to numb the treatment area. If you are concerned about discomfort, your specialist can instead apply a topical numbing cream before administering your treatment.

  1. Are there any risks/side effects?

Before coming into the office to get any of the procedures done, we ask that you get a medical clearance from your primary care. The form can be provided from our office. There can be side effects which includes (but not limited to): mild pain, numbness, headache, mild nausea, bleeding.
